There are many reasons why people still have a passion for stamp collecting and cheap postage stamps . First of all, rare postage stamps can be one's tickets to great fortune. There have been lots of news reports wherein a certain collector was able to sell a rare stamp to the tune of millions. Secondly, some stamps represent a piece of history. These special stamps, which are only available for a specific period of time, are called commemorative stamps. The Queen Elizabeth series of stamps, for instance, symbolized the longtime reign and accomplishments of the said matriarch. The series was only sold for a limited number of weeks. Thirdly, collectors like the sheer joy and excitement of owning a stamp collection. Every compilation has a story to tell and shows the collector's patience and dedication to the art.
Should you want to start your own collection, you may do so by first visiting the local post office. Ask what types of stamps are available for purchase. Since you're still starting out, rare postage stamps may be out of the question so start with cheap postage stamps first. Your best bets could be the definitive stamps. These are the everyday stamps that the local post office prints out. Ask the post office employees to orient you on the various kinds of cheap postage stamps as well. Check whether or not there are foreign postage stamps for sale and if there's a collectors club you can join. Usually, postal offices are in touch with both philately and hobbyist clubs. As soon as you get home, gather up all your mail and carefully take the used stamps off of the envelopes.
